Frequently Asked Questions

What is the purpose of this activity?

The purpose is to build an understanding of the current safety climate in your organisation and to use the results to identify areas of strength and weakness within the safety management system and other WHS related issues. The results will enable management to focus their WHS improvement efforts onto areas that workers and leaders have identified as unreliable to some extent. The results are also used as a baseline when the organisation is resurveyed after a year or more (usually). This way we can see if and where there have been improvements or deterioration in the WHS culture. In addition the results will be able to be used to benchmark your organisation’s WHS culture against other organisations that have been surveyed using the same method.

Why have I been invited to participate in this survey?

Your organisation has contracted SafetyCircle to conduct this survey.  The more employees who participate, the more representative the results will be of the overall perceptions of the employee population with respect to the safety climate.

What does this survey involve?

Employees will be asked to fill out a questionnaire that relates to perceptions of safety climate in your workplace.  Safety climate might be defined as ‘the way we do health and safety around here’. This questionnaire will take approximately 5-15 minutes to complete.

What’s next?

We collect the questionnaires, and put them all together. We mix them up so we have no idea who filled out which survey. We intend to survey as many employees as practical from the organisation. The surveys are entered into a database (confidentially and independently).  The database allows for us to conduct a statistical review of the collected individual results to determine cultural strengths and weaknesses. Our WHS Culture specialists analyse the results and identify trends and peaks and points of interest to discuss.

What happens then?

Following the analysis of the results, SafetyCircle consultants will provide a draft report using our standardised reporting format and verify the interpretations with the survey team. We then finalise the report for relevant individuals and groups, which might include Senior Management, WHS Committees, workforce or other groups.

After a year or more a re-survey can be gathered to see how the health and safety culture is changing as a result of the WHS efforts in your organisation.
